Eight NATO soldiers were killed in separate incidents in southern Afghanistan, while insurgent attacks in different parts of the country claimed eight civilian casualties, the alliance said Tuesday, DPA reported.

In a statement, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said that six service members were killed by one roadside bomb and two by another in southern Afghanistan on Monday.

The total number of international soldiers killed in the Afghan conflict so far in 2010 now stands at 486, according to the website iCasualties.org.

Roadside bombs are the weapon of choice of the Taliban insurgency, and have claimed the most fatalities among the Western troops.

Insurgent attacks in the southern province of Helmand killed four civilians on Monday including two children, the alliance said, while four more civilians were wounded.

In another incident, two Afghan children were killed when insurgents attacked a coalition outpost in the central province of Wardak on Monday, it said.

In the Garm Ser district of Helmand province, insurgents killed a father and son and wounded two other children, NATO said.
