Nineteen people from the same extended family were killed late Tuesday in a roadside bomb in western Afghanistan, police said, dpa reported.

The incident took place in Obe district as they were travelling to attend a wedding ceremony when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb, said Khan Wali, a senior police official in Herat province.

The victims included 12 women and six children, he said.
