Two Iranian Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) forces were killed in Tikrit, Iraq on March 23.

The dead IRGC advisors to Iraq were identified as Hadi Jafari and Ali Yazdani, Sepah News, a website affiliated to the IRGC reported March 30.

The news website said that the military personnel were killed in an attack by US drones however, did not give details.

Iran's DANA news portal reported that their bodies were burnt in blasts.

As the Iraqi army operations against the Islamic State (IS) group began in Tikrit, reports came that Iranian forces had been seen alongside Iraqi forces.

Many Iranian forces have been killed in the past months in Iraq, especially in the city of Samara.

In the last instance, Farhad Khousheh was killed in Samarra on March 1.

Before that, a young cleric named Mohammad Hadi Zolfaqari was killed in the same city on February 17.

Iranian media also reported February 7 that Seyyed Reza Hosseini Moqaddam, deputy commander of operation intelligence of the 5th Nasr Division was killed in a battle with IS fighters.

The bodies of five Iranian fighters killed in Syria were also buried in March.

The news about Iranian forces being killed in Iraq and Syria come despite claims by Iranian military commanders that Iran only dispatches military advisors to these countries in order to help their armies with tactical knowledge.
