The Turkmen Parliament (Majlis) has approved the Criminal Executive Code at a meeting of the fourth convocation, held in Ashgabat, an official Turkmen source said.

The Turkmen Parliament (Majlis) has approved the Criminal Executive Code at a meeting of the fourth convocation, held in Ashgabat, an official Turkmen source said.

The law has been prepared at the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov's initiative, who pointed to "the necessity to accelerate work on the implementation of norms of international law in the national legislation to further humanize the system of criminal punishment, improve law enforcement agencies' activities".

The Turkmen media outlets reported that the main tasks of this document are regulating the order and terms of executing and serving sentence, protection of prisoners' rights, freedoms and legal interests, providing assistance in social adaptation.

The law is also intended to "play a huge role in improving the legal framework of law enforcement agencies in accordance with modern requirements, as well as ensuring protection of human rights and freedoms".
