Astana, Kazakhstan, April 18
By Daniyar Mukhtarov - Trend:
Ten smugglers, including one injured, have been detained on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border, Border Guard Service of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee said on April 18.
The Kordai border guard detachment detected a group of unknown citizens, who were smuggling consumer goods from Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan across the Shu River. During the arrest, the smugglers put up active physical resistance to the border guards and attempted to escape.
The smugglers ignored the demands of the border guards stipulated by the law "On the state border of Kazakhstan" and even attempted to run down the border guards with a Mitsubishi Delica car. In order to force the car to stop, the border guards fired warning shots in the air from Kalashnikov rifle. The second shot targeted the car and the bullet hit the right eye of one of the smugglers (Kazakhstan citizen, the resident of Kordai settlement) who was driving the car.
As a result, ten citizens, including five Kyrgyzstan citizens and five Kazakhstan citizens, who were engaged in smuggling, as well as the Mitsubishi Delica car carrying smuggled consumer goods, were taken into custody.
The injured smuggler has been rushed to the central hospital of Kordai village. His health condition is stable.
