BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. Azerbaijan aims to reduce the negative effects of climate change, the Vice President of SOCAR Afgan Isayev said at a summit on methane and non-CO2 greenhouse gases, Trend reports.
“In this direction, SOCAR will make even more efforts to achieve key indicators. This is just the beginning of the journey. Thus, we are approaching the fulfillment of several national goals. Our main task now is to intensify activities in this area,” he said.
Baku is hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
The official opening ceremony was held on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
The decision to hold COP29 in Azerbaijan was made on December 11 last year at the plenary session of COP28 in Dubai.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed in June 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro to prevent dangerous anthropogenic impacts on the climate system.
The first session was held in March 1995 in Berlin and the conference secretariat is located in Bonn.
