BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. A gala concert for the IV International Composer Competition was held at the Bruno Walter Auditorium of the Lincoln Center in New York, organized by the National Music & Global Culture Society, the press office of the society's president, the Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, international competition laureate, PhD, professor, and head of the competition's organizing committee Nargiz Aliyarova told Trend.

According to the press office, this is the first and only international composer competition in the history of Azerbaijan's music.

The concert opened with a welcoming speech by Aliyarova. The pianist thanked the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan for supporting the project.

The chair of the jury, head of the composition department at Juilliard School, and renowned composer Melinda Wagner spoke about her participation in the jury of the competition. The first prize diploma was awarded to American composer Kian Raevy.

The concert program featured works by Azerbaijani composers. In addition, Azerbaijani folk songs were performed, including 'Sari galin', 'Aghajda alma', 'Aman, ovchu', and others.

The evening featured performances by Aliyarova.

The concert program also included performances by the young Azerbaijani khananda (folk singer) living in the US, Agil Suleymanov, and the Chamber Music Ensemble of the MSM (Maastricht Society of Music).

The audience greeted the performers with great interest and applause.

The IV International Composer Competition was dedicated to Azerbaijani folk songs. The goal of the competition is to bring to the global music community the recognition of several Azerbaijani folk songs, which have been plagiarized, as part of Azerbaijani culture and to widely promote them worldwide. The winners of the competition were announced on National Music Day, celebrated in Azerbaijan on September 18. The premiere of the winning works took place within the framework of the Uzeyir Hajibayli International Festival on September 28 at the Hall of Chamber and Organ Music of the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic named after Muslim Magomayev in Baku.
