BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov met with Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during the opening ceremony of the Leaders Summit held in Baku COP29 on November 12, Trend reports via Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers.

The meeting expressed confidence that COP29 will contribute to international efforts to promote the green agenda.
Moreover, the meeting noted long-term fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Health Organization.

The sides talked about the consistent reforms implemented in our country in the health care system and touched upon cooperation aimed at reducing the impact of climate change on human health.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) commenced at the Baku Olympic Stadium on November 11 and will last until November 22. The event is the largest ever staged by Azerbaijan and is being hosted in the region for the first time.

The highest-level event, the COP20-framed summit of world leaders on climate action, will be held on November 12–13.

The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.

In addition to being a top priority that creates the conditions for action, the creation of climate finance will also contribute to meeting the 1.5°C commitment by bringing everyone together.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
