BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarpov called for unified global climate action and innovative financing mechanisms to support developing nations in addressing climate challenges, during his address at the COP29 summit in Baku, Trend reports.

Amidst urgent climate concerns, the president emphasized the need for countries to collaborate on climate initiatives regardless of geopolitical differences. “We must unite on climate action,” he stated, underscoring that achieving the Paris Agreement goals requires coordinated global efforts. He voiced Kyrgyzstan's support for a new climate finance target, urging developed countries to increase climate assistance for developing nations to $2 trillion, with streamlined access to these funds.

In a move toward innovative climate finance, Japarov outlined Kyrgyzstan’s strategy to leverage debt-for-climate exchanges. He proposed that Kyrgyzstan’s external debt be restructured to fund specific green initiatives. The country has established a Climate Trust Fund to channel resources into ecological and sustainable mountain projects, inviting interested nations to participate.

Highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s renewable energy projects, President Japarov discussed the collaborative construction of the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant with neighboring countries, one of the largest in the region. Addressing water resource challenges, he proposed creating a regional center in Bishkek dedicated to energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies, calling for support from development partners.
