BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. The 9th Ministerial Meeting/Steering Committee Meeting pursuant to the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Field of Green Energy Development and Transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary was held within COP29 in Baku, Trend reports.

First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili said that COP29 will be an important step to increase the prominence of not only Azerbaijan but also the entire South Caucasus.

“This Ministerial Meeting serves as an exceptional forum to showcase our project at COP29. I find it significant that we are deliberating the largest green energy initiative for our region at COP29. I extend my congratulations to Azerbaijan for the excellent organization of this event, convey my appreciation for the gracious hospitality, and wish for a fruitful conference. I am assured that this will significantly enhance the recognition of Azerbaijan, Baku, and the entire South Caucasus,” he said.

Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Ioan Burduja noted that it is absolutely critical for Romania to develop a green corridor.

“If you look at a map of energy prices in the EU today, you see something quite interesting. The average price of a megawatt hour today is 268 euro in Romania, 306 euro in Hungary, 104 euro in France, 76 euro in Spain, and so on. This underscores the fact that the transition to clean energy is not possible without transmission. We feel the lack of interconnections in Europe - Bulgaria is in the same situation as Greece and sometimes Poland. That is why it is absolutely critical for us to develop these routes, the green corridor, not only for energy security but also for competitiveness in energy,” he said.

Minister of State for Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Sztáray said that the Green Energy Corridor project aligns with the key objectives of COP29.

"I believe that organizing a meeting on the Green Energy Corridor project in conjunction with COP29 is an outstanding initiative. This connection is not only symbolic but also strategically significant, as both events address interconnected priorities. The Green Energy Corridor project aligns seamlessly with COP29’s primary objectives of promoting sustainable development. Currently, our emphasis is on establishing robust infrastructure links, which are critical and supported by substantial evidence and research.

However, it is essential that we thoroughly assess the project's feasibility before progressing further," Sztáray added.
