BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. It is absolutely critical for Romania to develop a green corridor, Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Ioan Burduja said during the 9th Ministerial Meeting/Steering Committee Meeting pursuant to the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Field of Green Energy Development and Transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary, Trend reports.

“If you look at a map of energy prices in the EU today, you see something quite interesting. The average price of a megawatt hour today is 268 euro in Romania, 306 euro in Hungary, 104 euro in France, 76 euro in Spain, and so on. This underscores the fact that the transition to clean energy is not possible without transmission. We feel the lack of interconnections in Europe - Bulgaria is in the same situation as Greece and sometimes Poland. That is why it is absolutely critical for us to develop these routes, the green corridor, not only for energy security but also for competitiveness in energy,” he said.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium.

The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date and is the first time the region has hosted the event in Azerbaijan. Within COP29, the highest-level event - the summit of world leaders on climate action - will be held on November 12–13.

The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance. The COP29 chairmanship has launched 14 initiatives that include linkages between climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals, including green energy corridors, green energy storage, harmony for climate resilience, clean hydrogen, methane reduction in organic waste, action on green digital technologies, and other topics.
