BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. As part of COP29 in Baku, Trend News Agency proudly presents COP for Hope, a special project offering an unparalleled platform to hear from world leaders and trailblazers in politics, economics, science, and ecology, all united by a shared commitment to addressing today’s pressing climate challenges.

The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nyssanbayev became our next interviewee.

The minister told Trend that Azerbaijan has organized COP29 at a high level, and all necessary infrastructure for fruitful activity has been created.

“Numerous climate priority problems are being addressed during COP29 in Baku. The primary concern is well articulated—objectives and financial amounts. Numerous controversies surround this issue. Absence of funds results in stagnation. COP29 has initiated progress in addressing the established objectives, and the financial benchmarks will be determined. Due to the existence of several ideas, it is essential to reach a unified, consolidated conclusion that would enable developing nations to get financing beyond their financial allocations. Today, we require external financial support for the implementation of critical climate initiatives,” the minister said.

To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) kicked off in Baku on November 11.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
