BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. Generation from renewable sources will reach nearly four gigawatts by the end of this year in Uzbekistan, the Deputy Energy Minister of Uzbekistan Sharofiddinov Fazliddin said during a ministerial dialog on “Scaling up Investment for Tripling Renewables and Doubling Energy Efficiency," Trend reports.

“To achieve 40 percent renewable energy (RE) production by 2030, the country has already contributed and raised nearly $5 billion. Last year, the renewable energy generation capacity was 1.5 gigawatts, and by the end of this year, renewable energy generation will reach almost 4 gigawatts. Uzbekistan ranks second among Central Asian countries in electricity generation after Kazakhstan. Almost 85 percent of electricity comes from fossil fuels and nuclear gas, and by the end of this year, we plan to generate nearly 10 percent of the total electricity from renewable sources.

Also in one month, we will commission Uzbekistan's first energy storage system with a capacity of 300 megawatts, which will serve to support grid stability and balancing. To achieve these goals, we are working with renowned companies from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and China, which are investing in the development and deployment of renewable energy capacity through agreements.

Our President adopted a special presidential decree last month to support and attract investments in renewable energy, which provides for customs privileges, tax policies, subsidies, and land tax exemption. All these efforts will help to introduce renewable energy sources and achieve all the goals and objectives for their development,” the deputy minister said.
