BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. Investigating the potential for transporting green hydrogen is worthwhile, said Levan Davitashvili, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Trend reports.
The Georgian Minister made his statement at the 9th Ministerial Meeting, a meeting of the steering committee held in accordance with the agreement on strategic partnership on green energy development and transfer between the governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary within COP29.
"The South Caucasus boasts an abundance of renewable resources, and the potential for integrating Central Asia further amplifies these opportunities. Notable initiatives aimed at the production of green hydrogen are already in progress. By leveraging our existing transportation routes and pipeline infrastructure, we can effectively produce and move green hydrogen to various markets. Experts suggest that utilizing this established network can enhance the delivery efficiency of green hydrogen, paving the way for future scaling and investment in additional infrastructure.
Therefore, at this stage, the transit of green hydrogen appears not only feasible but also competitively advantageous," he added.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened today at the Baku Olympic Stadium. The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date and is the first time the region has hosted the event in Azerbaijan.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
