BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 12. Kazakhstan is investing in monitoring and digital tools for early warning systems, as well as improved water and land management, said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as he delivered his national statement during COP29 conference in Baku, Trend reports.
Kazakhstan is investing in monitoring and digital tools for early warning systems, as well as improved water and land management. President emphasized that Kazakhstan is actively working on methane reduction projects, specifically targeting key sectors such as coal, oil, gas, and agriculture. “Together with our partners, we continue working on concrete projects on methane reduction,” he noted, adding that these initiatives have led to a three-fold reduction in methane emissions.
With its vast agricultural resources, Kazakhstan is promoting carbon farming, a set of practices aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing soil quality. “Kazakhstan, with its 200 million hectares of agricultural land, is well positioned for carbon farming,” he stated, inviting international stakeholders to explore opportunities for sustainable agricultural investment in the country.
Kazakhstan’s role in the global energy transition was also underscored, particularly through its significant contribution to low-carbon nuclear power. As the world’s leading uranium exporter, providing 43% of global supply, Kazakhstan is a key player in clean energy. President also announced that a recent referendum approved the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country. “We are committed to ensuring the project’s safety and efficiency through partnerships with global technology leaders,” he said, underscoring the country’s commitment to a safe and efficient nuclear future.
