The implementation of all three stages of industrial development of the Turkmen Galkynysh gas field will make it possible to bring the total production of commercial gas to 95 billion cubic meters, Nebit-Gaz, online newspaper of the country’s Oil and Gas Complex, reported.

The reserves of the Galkynysh field are estimated at 27.4 trillion cubic meters. Galkynysh gas field was chosen as a resource base for supplies via the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline, which is planned to be commissioned in 2020.

During the first phase of the field’s industrial development, a gas processing complex with a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year was built in 2013 in cooperation with companies from South Korea, China and the UAE.

In 2014, with the participation of China, construction of second phase facilities was launched, also designed for 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year. In December 2015, simultaneously with the launch of construction of the TAPI pipeline, it was announced that the foundation of the third stage of the field’s industrial development was laid.

Companies from Japan were expected to act as contractors. However, according to some reports, negotiations continue. The industrial facilities of the Galkynysh field in 2018-2022 will be among the newest gas processing facilities with the highest production indicators.

Thus, the GlobalData, data and analytics company, said in its report that by 2022, global daily gas processing volumes will grow 13.5 percent from the current 14.8 billion cubic meters to 16.8 billion cubic meters.

Among all new projects in the reporting period, the second stage of the Galkynysh field in Turkmenistan will have the biggest gas processing capacity (80.62 million cubic meters per day).
