Baku starts the European Championships in Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling and women's wrestling today.

Primarily the freestyle wrestling will be held between the wrestlers in the Championships with participation of about 450 athletes from 37 countries.

Today the wrestlers in the weight categories of 55, 66, 84 and 120 kg will perform on the carpet. Azerbaijani wrestlers Mahmud Magomedov, Jabrayil Hasanov, Sharif Sharifov and Ali Isayev will compete for medals in these weight categories.

Mahmud Magomedov performing in the weight category of 55 kg in the first meeting wrestled with the German wrestler. Dagestan legionary hasn't left chances for Marcel Ewald. Magomedov completed two rounds with a score of 2:0 and passed to the next stage.

Azerbaijani wrestler Jabrayil Hasanov wrestled with the British wrestler James Roberts in 1/8 final in the weight category of 66 kg. Our wrestler won with a score of 5:0 in the first round. Hasanov by winning ahead of time - 6:0 passed to the next stage in the second round.

Jabrayil will wrestle with Vladimir Jotisan (Macedonia) and Saba Bolaji (Germany).

Sharif Sharifov's rival in the weight category of 84 kg is Deian Bogdanov. Our wrestler in the first round won with a score of 5:1. Sharifov passed to the 1/4 finals by winning with a score of 5:0 in the second round. In the quarterfinal he will meet with Said Ahmad Mahmudovich (France) and Peter Uesenberger (Germany).

Ali Isayev, who serves in the weight category of 120 kg, failed to defend title of the European champion. Our team's heavyweight lost in the first meeting with Belarusian wrestler Alexei Shemarov.

But Ali preserved the chances for medals. If Alexei reaches the final, then Ali will perform on the carpet in the consolation meeting.

Mahmud Magomedov, who performs in the weight category of 55 kg, won Macedonian wrestler Alexander Chirtoadjoy in the quarterfinal and passed to the European Championship semifinal.

Another Azerbaijani wrestler Jabrayil Hasanov reached the semifinal, defeating Macedonian Vladimir Jotisan in the quarterfinal single combat.

Sharif Sharifov reached the final of the European Championship by defeating his French rival with score 6:0.

Jabrayil Hasanov reached the final by defeating his Polish rival with score 2:0 and 4:0.

Sharif Sharifov became the third athlete in Azerbaijan who reached the final by defeating Romanian wrestler for 24 seconds.
