BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. An exhibition titled "Gurama Art: Unity of Time" was opened in the Shirvanshahs Palace Complex in Azerbaijan’s Baku on the eve of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the Administration of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher" told Trend.
The exhibition emphasizes the importance of nature conservation and resource management, focusing on ecological responsibility and the sustainability of Gurama art.
During the opening ceremony, Intigam Babayev, head of the office of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher," highlighted the government's commitment to environmental protection. He noted that the exhibition aims not only to preserve Gurama art as a national heritage but also to enhance ecological awareness and environmental care.
Babayev explained that Gurama art promotes zero waste and sustainability through the repurposing of woven material remnants, giving them a "second life" and positively impacting both ecological responsibility and creativity. This approach plays a crucial role in shaping societal ecological behavior.
Guests at the exhibition, which merges ancient Gurama techniques with modern aesthetics, explored samples from the 19th to 21st centuries, showcasing the integration of tradition with contemporary technology as well as digital Gurama art, a new innovation in this field.
The "Gurama Art: Unity of Time" exhibition will run until November 12 at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and from November 15 to 30 at the State Historical-Ethnographic Reserve "Gala."
To note, the Gurama Center, situated within the Gala State Historical and Ethnographic Reserve under the Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, is dedicated to the revival and preservation of Gurama art, deeply rooted in Azerbaijan’s traditions. Since 2022, the Icherisheher Reserve has organized national Gurama Festivals, and in 2024, the first International Gurama Festival will take place in Azerbaijan in collaboration with the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.
