BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 30. The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva took part in an event on "Intellectual Property and Innovation for a Green Future (Towards COP29)", Trend reports via the Ombudsman's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the event, the Commissioner remarked that climate change, a critical issue of our era, adversely affects the sustainable development of nations and the social welfare of their populations and underscored the necessity for broader implementation of advanced technologies in combating climate change.

Aliyeva highlighted that the significance of intellectual property across all domains of public life has recently escalated due to the heightened use of the Internet. The equilibrium between safeguarding intellectual property rights and implementing new green technologies, hence enhancing access to innovative solutions, has become increasingly significant. The enforcement of intellectual property rights underpins the implementation of certain fundamental rights.

The Ombudsperson also stressed the importance of further development of the existing cooperation relations between the Intellectual Property Agency and the Ombudsman's Office.

She underscored the significance of hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in our nation, noting that prior to COP29, the Baku International Ombudspersons Forum convened to address issues arising from climate change and potential solutions.
