BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. The Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), scheduled to take place in Baku, holds substantial significance and will capture global attention, Director of Environmental News of the Turkish Anadolu Agency Hale Aydogmus told reporters, Trend reports.
"We must adequately value this period. Journalists tasked with reporting on climate concerns must accurately communicate the discussions and decisions taken herein to the global audience. Specific qualifications are necessary to pursue a career in journalism within this profession. They must comprehend climate-related terms and be knowledgeable about COP conferences.
That’s why training sessions are so important. They should conduct climate research. Today, I will also share my experience. Every incorrectly used term undermines the reputation and authority of the journalists and the edition they work for," she emphasized.
In under two weeks, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP—the Conference of the Parties—is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
