BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. During COP29, the daily passenger turnover of Heydar Aliyev International Airport is expected to reach 25,000-27,000 people, Director of Heydar Aliyev International Airport Teymur Hasanov said at a media briefing on the results of a media tour of Heydar Aliyev International Airport in preparation for COP29, Trend reports.
Hasanov noted that Heydar Aliyev International Airport will operate at an enhanced capacity during COP29.
“Additional employees and volunteers have been attracted to ensure all processes, and a working group has been established to regulate the work. At the moment, the daily passenger flow is 18,000–20,000 people; this figure is expected to reach 25,000–27,000 during COP29. In the enhanced mode, the airport will be able to serve up to 45,000–50,000 passengers a day," he said.
According to him, 15 supplementary charter flights are scheduled for COP29.
“The runway has been put into operation following a major overhaul. Taxiways have been repaired and three new ones have been built. To increase passenger throughput, the number of security screening points has been increased. The terminals are equipped with 12 self-check-in machines and 10 baggage drop-off points. Also, the Internet equipment has been upgraded and a faster and more stable connection has been provided,” Hasanov added.
In under two weeks, Azerbaijan will host COP29, the decision about which was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
