BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. Azerbaijan ranks among the most vulnerable nations to negative effects of climate change, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Vugar Karimov said during a dialogue on the Sustainable Development Goals on the theme “Future Echoes: Bridging Pathways for Climate Change and Global Goals” in Baku today, Trend reports.
According to him, this sensitivity is evident in the declining water resources, thinning forests, and biodiversity of Azerbaijan.
The deputy minister emphasized that 20-30 years ago, when discussing the consequences of global climate change, scientists and experts identified two factors:
"One is related to anthropogenic impacts, while the other pertains to natural phenomena. However, the more intense warming over the last 100-150 years due to industrialization certainly prompts us to consider that it is directly linked to anthropogenic influences.
Various studies have shown that over the past 10 years, the Earth's crust has warmed by 1.5–2 degrees. The increase in the Earth's crust temperature of more than 1.5 degrees over the last nearly 100 years indicates that the role of anthropogenic impacts is very significant here," he added.
