BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 30. The recent victory of the Georgian Dream party in the parliamentary election held in Georgia on October 26 is a significant milestone for stability and peace in the region, political analyst Azer Garayev told Trend.
Garayev noted that the pro-Western opposition coalition garnered 37.33 percent of the votes.
"This outcome is crucial for strengthening political stability in Georgia and promoting peace throughout the region.
Despite Western attempts to increase their influence and lobby in the region, the determination shown by the Georgian people in this election highlights their commitment to peace and stability. Had the opposition parties gained the upper hand in the elections, it could have led to the rise of Western-backed individuals in power, posing a threat to regional stability and potentially reshaping political alliances. The decision made by the Georgian people is vital for safeguarding Georgia against any potential colonial policies from the West and for preserving internal peace," he said.
The political analyst highlighted that these results strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
"In a congratulatory letter to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his belief that the results of the elections will contribute to the continuous development of Azerbaijan-Georgia relations, which stem from the will of our peoples who have historically lived in a spirit of friendship, brotherhood, and good neighborliness, and further enhancement of the authority of our countries in the South Caucasus and the wider region,” Garayev added.
He indicated that the elections signify a new chapter in the long-standing ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
"Around 300,000 Azerbaijanis living in Georgia play a vital role in society and significantly influence the country's future direction. Their support for the ruling party in the election reflects a strong commitment to traditional values, peace, and stability. This unity between Azerbaijan and Georgia underscores their shared stance against the conflicts that the West seeks to introduce into the region.
The active participation of the Azerbaijani community in the election has helped avert potential conflicts, reinforcing the bonds of friendship between Azerbaijan and Georgia and contributing to regional stability in the South Caucasus. These relations not only draw from a rich historical foundation but also address contemporary global challenges. There are high expectations that the Georgian government will continue to prioritize the rights and needs of its Azerbaijani citizens," the political analyst noted.
Garaev remarked that the Georgian government's attention to the needs of the Azerbaijani community is crucial for their continued positive impact on both nations.
“This alliance could serve as a model for other countries in the region, particularly Armenia, demonstrating that constructive cooperation yields greater benefits than aggressive relations.
The victory of the Georgian Dream party in the parliamentary election is seen as a vital step toward ensuring stability and peace in the South Caucasus, reinforcing the unwavering friendship between Azerbaijan and Georgia based on shared values and interests. Following these elections, Azerbaijani-Georgian relations continue to be a reliable foundation for regional stability and stronger positions on the international stage," Garayev concluded.
