BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. Azerbaijan has established a new procedure for foreigners and stateless persons held in the detention center to send and receive packages, gifts, mail, and money, Trend reports.
The regulation was outlined in an amendment to the Migration Code, which was discussed during today’s session of the Legal Policy and State Building Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
According to the draft, detainees are allowed to receive or dispatch goods, presents, and mail on weekdays without limitations on quantity and may even transfer and receive funds via their personal accounts.
To prevent the transfer of prohibited items, Center staff will inspect incoming gifts in the presence of the individual delivering them, while packages and mail will be checked in the presence of the detainees.
If prohibited items are discovered in packages or gifts addressed to detainees, these items will be seized and documented in a search protocol, either stored at the Center or destroyed at the justified discretion of the Center's director. The protocol, along with the director's decision in the case of destruction, will be added to the personal file of the detainee.
