Kazakhstan and the Netherlands are important partners in the area of investments, the Netherlands’ Foreign Ministry told Trend.

“The Netherlands is considered to be the largest foreign investor in Kazakhstan with $7.4 billion (30 percent) in 2018 according to Kazakh statistics,” a representative of the ministry said.

Highlighting important areas of countries’ cooperation, the representative, singled out oil- and gas industry as the most important one.

“Royal Dutch Shell (oil and gas company headquartered in the Netherlands) is an important player in this market,” the official said.

According to the representative, another important area where Kazakh and Dutch business cooperate is agriculture, agri-food.

“The Netherlands is the second largest exporter of agricultural products in the world. Dutch companies also provide technology and/or propagation materials. Usually this takes the form of commercial contracts, e.g. contracts for the construction of state-of-the-art high-tech greenhouses. There are some examples of (possible future) joint ventures between Dutch and Kazakh partners as well,’ he said.

Furthermore, noting the importance of cooperation between countries, the official noted that Dutch government supports Dutch companies doing business abroad.

“In the case of Kazakhstan this support can consist of classic trade promotion activities, e.g. participation in trade fairs and/or trade missions as well as public private partnerships with Dutch companies to assist them in entering the Kazakh market,” he concluded.
