ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 16. As part of his official visit to Japan, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhamedov held a meeting with Hayashi Nobumitsu, Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan’s national development strategy focuses on the creation of scientifically grounded production facilities and the widespread adoption of advanced, environmentally friendly technologies, innovations, and know-how across all sectors of the national economy. In this context, the importance of ongoing projects with Japanese companies was highlighted.

Chairman Nobumitsu praised the effectiveness of Turkmenistan’s economic policy and expressed the strong interest of Japanese business circles and financial institutions in expanding bilateral cooperation.

Concluding the meeting, President Berdymukhamedov expressed confidence in the continued development of productive and mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and JBIC and wished Hayashi Nobumitsu success in his work.

Meanwhile, Japan’s exports to Turkmenistan in January 2025 totaled 360.78 million yen ($2.4 million), reflecting a notable decline from previous months. For comparison, exports in December 2024 amounted to 437.64 million yen ($3.3 million), while November exports were recorded at 708.18 million yen ($5.3 million). The highest export volume in 2024 was recorded in May, reaching 770.25 million yen ($5.8 million).
