BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 20. All efforts remain focused on achieving all requirements for commissioning at the earliest possible time, the ICGB AD, the project company, told Trend.
“Functional testing including with actual quantities of natural gas has already begun. In parallel with the completion of the construction and commissioning activities, a number of administrative procedures also need to be carried out so that the interconnector can be put into commercial operation,” the company said.
ICGB AD said that reinstatement is carried out along the entire length of the 182-kilometer route - the upper layer of the soil is restored so that it can be cultivated once again. 135 km of the entire route have already been reinstated.
The IGB project is of key importance for increasing security of supply and for ensuring diversification of natural gas sources for Bulgaria and the region of Southeast Europe. At the regional level, IGB will provide access to the gas transmission network for Bulgarian municipalities and regions that didn’t have an option for connectivity. The interconnector with Greece is an entirely new route for the transmission of natural gas to Europe and will give Bulgaria and the region access to supplies from new sources. The project will connect the country with the Southern Gas Corridor and has excellent synergy with other major energy projects such as TAP, TANAP, EastMed and the LNG terminal at Alexandroupolis.
