Interference of other parliaments and politicians in the recognition of the so-called Armenian "genocide" is absolutely inappropriate and unethical and leads to undesirable results, a Swedish journalist and writer Stefan Lindgren said.

"All moments about the "genocide" should be devised only by historians who will establish the truth even if conditional. This is not a free law that parliaments intervene and make opportunistic decisions," Lindgren told Trend.

The draft resolution recognizing the so-called "genocide" of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire has repeatedly been presented to discussions at the U.S. House of Representatives, but has not been adopted so far.

The resolution on so-called "Armenian genocide" was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 4. 23 congressmen voted for the resolution and 22 against it. The vote opened the way for the measure possibly to be considered by the full House.

A week later, the Swedish Parliament Riksdag adopted a similar decision, which led to sharp tensions in Ankara's relations with Washington and Stockholm.

Armenia claims that in 1915, the Turkish Ottoman Empire committed "genocide" against the Armenians living in Anatolia.

Swedish writer and author of articles, in which he criticizes the decision of the Riksdag, is sure that many of the MPs who approved the resolution even are not familiar with the historical facts.

"The Parliament decided that in the Armenian issue, Sweden may have its public view on history. However, the intervention of government in an independent investigation of historians is misconduct, said Lindgren. - You can really believe that among the MPs who voted "for" there were such who very poorly know history and in matters of genocide."

According to him, when the question of the Armenian "genocide" is presented only from one point of view, it is very easy to draw a one-sided picture. "It should be noted that in addition to the Armenians, many Muslims died in these events. Turkey's image of committing "genocide" against the Armenian people has been created unfairly," said Lindgren.

He is confident that the question of approving the resolution on "genocide" was slipped to the Swedish Parliament by certain circles, without specifying exactly who.

"I believe that the Armenian leadership is not interested in adopting resolutions on the backdrop of normalization of relations with Turkey. The decision of the Swedish Parliament practically stopped the process, the expert believes. - Of course the Swedish government is still against such a biased decision, because Sweden has always maintained good relations with Turkey, including Ankara regarding the accession to the EU."

Talking about Turkey's role in the South Caucasus, Swedish writer believes that Turkey is primarily interested in stabilizing the region and in the future Turkey will be a leader not only in the Caucasus, but throughout the Middle East.

"Turkey has the potential to act as a great power in the Middle East and influence the processes in the South Caucasus. It has an excellent cooperation with Russia, perfectly agrees with the Middle East countries, which the U.S. was deprived of today," said Lindgren.
