Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava has been officially charged under two articles of the Georgian Criminal Code.
Afterwards, Ugulava appeared before the supporters who gathered in front of the Finance Ministry.
"We must do everything possible together with the new authorities to protect our independent homeland," he said. "Let everyone know that the United National Movement is a strong opposition that will always tell the truth to the authorities in the interests of the country."
The mayor's lawyer Gogita Gabaydze told media that they received the 50 volume-case.
Ugulava was charged under two articles of the Criminal Code - Part 2 and 3 of Article 182, which envisage the misappropriation of property. Ugulava may face jail term of 7 to 11 years.
Ugulava has fraudulently appropriated "Imedi" TV station from Joseph Kay.
Part 3 of Article 194 envisages his accusation of money laundering. The mayor may face imprisonment from 9 to 12 years.
Ugulava refused to give testimony. He said that he is ready to cooperate with the investigative bodies.
