British Airways' customers flying from London will be required to follow new rules on carrying liquids in cabin baggage. Franchise partner of British Airways (BA), BMED, has launched the application of these new rules.
With effect from Monday November 6, 2006, the airline will implement the new EU-wide regulations that will allow customers to carry a restricted amount of liquids in their cabin baggage.
The new rules will bring consistency across all EU countries, including the UK. Customers may take the following with them in their cabin bag when departing from or transiting through UK or EU airports:
- All liquids, gels and pastes must be carried in ONE clear plastic re-sealable or zip top bag no bigger than 20cm x 20cm (8 inches x 8 inches) or equivalent to one litre capacity.
- Liquids, gels and pastes must be in containers no larger than 100ml (3.5fl oz).
- The clear plastic bag must be removed from the cabin bag and screened separately.
Sabina Sharifova, BMED Sales Manager said: The new EU-wide policy on carrying liquids through security in cabin baggage is a very welcome move. It brings harmonisation for all air passengers traveling from an airport in the EU, and makes traveling through London much easier. The new policy will make it is simpler for customers to understand what they can and cannot take through security with them, yet it is a sensible measure to protect air passengers in the current climate of increased security.
Customers can prepare for the journey by taking a few simple steps:
• Familiarise yourself with the current security restrictions in place for the entire journey as these may differ if you are transferring or for the return journey.
• Check in online 24 hours before your flight departs.
