Court's sentence to demolish Baku mosque should be executed: State Committee
Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 3 / corr Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /
The problem is not with the mosques. The problem with illegal buildings in Azerbaijan, Gunduz Ismayilov, head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations, told Trend on Sept. 3.
Ismayilov consider seroius the threats of possible bloodshed during the scheduled rallies by the religious community against the demolishing of the Fatimeyi Zahra mosque.
"The statements on bloodshed after the unfinished mosque Fatimeyi Zahra is destroyed, or any other mosque, are not serious. A court decision has been taken, and so it is not up for discussion, and will be executed, Ismayilov added.
Recently, the local Economic Court 2 satisfied the Surakhani District Executive Power's appeal and made a decision to give the land to the claimant and demolish the Fatimeyi Zahra mosque, located in settlement 33 of Yeni Gunashli in the Surakhani district.
Dissatisfied with the court sentence, members of Fatimeyi Zahra community have held a protest in front of the Baku City Executive Power, threatening bloodshed if the mosque is destroyed.
In 1996 the head of the Baku City Executive Power ordered that the area in the village of Yeni Gunashli be allocated to construct the Fatimeyi Zahra mosque. The necessary documents for the construction were prepared by the city authorities.
However, in late 2002, due to long-term non-use of the area, the head of the Baku Executive Power, Hajibala Abutalibov, passed an order canceling the previous order and transferring the plot of land to the Surakhani District Executive Power to construct a sports and entertainment complex.
Over the last year in Baku the Mosque of Our Prophet Muhammad and the Oil Rocks Mosque were demolished as illegal facilities.
