The legislation in Azerbaijan fully defines punishment for the domestic violence against women, the Head of the Human Rights and Public Relations Department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice, Faig Gurbanov, said, commenting the proposal of the OSCE Baku Office and local NGOs of Azerbaijan to adopt a new legislation, Trend reports.
Gurbanov considers that in Azerbaijan the role of women in the public life is increasing, but as being in all countries around the world, the domestic violence against women still remains. But the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan defines criminal punishment. Although there is no concrete punishment for the domestic violence, but there are a number of articles defining punishment for violating the rights of women.
