Assets of Georgian commercial banks up 23 percent

According to the Georgian National Bank, net assets of commercial banks increased by 1657.5 million lari, i.e. by 23 percent amount to nearly 8865.6 million lari in 2008.
Own means of banks increased by 46.2 million lari - to 1517.3 million lari. It totals 17.1 percent of all net assets of commercial banks.
The growth of authorized capital totaled 26.5 percent amount to 120.3 million lari.
The share of the biggest commercial banks in the Georgian banks sector reduced from 80.4 to 79.3 percent as of 2009.
As of Dec. 31, the Georgian bank sector consists of 20 commercial banks, of which 15 with foreign authorized capital and two - branches of foreign banks.
