The price of mutton in the Iranian market grows every year in anticipation of Eid al-Adha/Eid-e-Ghorban (“Feast of the Sacrifice”) holiday, Chairman of Iran Sheepmeat Union Ali Asghar Maleki said, Trend reports via the Young Journalists Club (YJC).

He said that this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), animals are exported to Iraq from the west and south of Iran, and this led to the increase in prices for the cattle.

He added that cattle breeders are interested in selling their animals to foreign buyers in US dollars at a higher price.

“Presently, mutton is supplied to the stores at 930,000-940,000 rials ($22.1-$22.3 according to the official exchange rate and $7.88-$7.96 according to the exchange rate in the black market) and is sold to consumers at 1.03-1.05 million rials ($24.5-$25 according to the official exchange rate and $8.72-$8.89 according to the exchange rate in the black market)” he said.
