Iran sees increase in exports to ECO member states

Iran's exports to the member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) increased by 54 percent in value and 46 percent in volume, during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to Latifi, Iran exported a total of 18.6 million tons of goods worth $6.82 billion to ECO member states in 8 months.

Latifi added that Iran exported 11.3 million tons of goods worth $3.76 billion to Turkey in eight months, which is an increase of 128 percent in value and 123 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“As for Iran's exports to Afghanistan for 8 months, the exports amounted to 3.05 million tons worth $1.27 billion, which is a decrease of 16 percent in value and 35 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he said.

The spokesman also pointed out Iran exported 1.86 million tons of goods worth $764 million to Pakistan within the mentioned period, which is an increase of 28 percent in value and 22 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"Furthermore, Iran exported 554,000 tons of goods worth about $336 million to Azerbaijan in 8 months. Exports decreased by about 7 percent in value and 22 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he added.

The customs official noted that Iran also exported 514,000 tons of goods worth $274 million to Uzbekistan during the reporting period. This is an increase of 223 percent in value and 279 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Latifi said that Iran's exports to Turkmenistan for eight months amounted to 894,000 tons worth $207 million. Exports increased by 168 percent in value and 173 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“Meanwhile, Iran’s exports to Kazakhstan amounted to 312,000 tons worth about $113 million in 8 months, which is an increase of 24 percent in value and 79 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year,” the spokesman stressed.

At the same time, Iran has exported 28,400 tons of goods worth $51.8 million to Kyrgyzstan over the mentioned period, which is an increase of 164 percent in value and 184 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year, he noted.

According to the official, between ECO member states, Iran's exports to Tajikistan for 8 months amounted to 54,600 tons worth $38.8 million. This is an increase of 232 percent in value and 283 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Latifi emphasized that Iran's foreign trade turnover with ECO member states for the first eight months of the current Iranian year amounted to 21.7 million tons worth $9.4 billion. Trade turnover increased by 44 percent in value and 34 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

The following ten countries are at present the member states of ECO: Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan.
