Iran sees growth in imports from ECO member states

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 8. Iran’s imports from the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), rose by 7.3 percent in value and 1.2 percent in volume in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, said Rouhollah Latifi, an official of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran, Trend reports.

The following countries are the member states of ECO: Afghanistan, Republic of Azerbaijan, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan.

Within 7 months, Iran imported 2.59 million tons of goods worth $4.3 billion from ECO member countries, Latifi noted.

“So, Iran imported goods worth $3.76 billion from Türkiye, $353 million from Pakistan, $51 million from Uzbekistan and $42.9 million from Kazakhstan over the course of seven months,” he added.

According to the official, Iran also imported goods worth about $35.3 million from Tajikistan, about $30.4 million from Azerbaijan, approximately $21.3 million from Turkmenistan, $15.9 million from Afghanistan, and around $4 million from Kyrgyzstan.

Meanwhile, Iran's total foreign trade turnover with ECO member states for the first 7 months amounted to 14.9 million tons worth approximately $10.2 billion, showing an increase of 4.5 percent in value and 18 percent in volume compared to the same period previous year.
