BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 15. Cargo transportation increased in Azerbaijan from January through July 2022 compared to the same period the previous year, Trend reports via Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.
According to the committee, cargo transportation by all means of transport amounted to 120.5 million tons, which is 11.7 percent higher than in the same period of 2021.
The committee also said that 56.7 percent of all cargo was transported by road during the specified period, 31.1 percent by pipeline, 8.4 percent by rail, 3.6 percent by sea, and 0.2 percent by air.
During this period, cargo transportation in the private sector increased by 11.7 percent compared from January through July 2021. The share of this sector in the total volume of cargo transportation was 77.7 percent.
Passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 894.9 million people in the reporting period, which is 37.6 percent higher than in the same period of 2021. Most of the passengers (86.8 percent) were transported by motor transport, 12.8 percent by metro, 0.4 percent by other modes of transport.
Cargo transportation by rail in the reporting period of 2022 amounted to 10.2 million tons (an increase of 21.3 percent), and passenger transportation – 2.489 million people (an increase of 88.5 percent).
More than 4.28 million tons of cargo were transported by sea during the reporting period, which is 32.5 percent more than from January through July 2021. The share of oil in the total volume of cargo transportation was 40.8 percent.
The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in the same period exceeded 6.603 million tons, of which 93.1 percent or 6.146 million tons were transit cargo. The volume of cargo in the ports amounted to 249.3 thousand tons as of August 1, 2022.
Some 68.3 million tons of cargo were transported by road during the reporting period, which is 11.3 percent more than from January through July 2021, and passenger transportation by this type of transport amounted to almost 777 million people (an increase of 23.6 percent over the year).
The Baku Metro carried 114.3 million passengers during the reporting period.
Over 1.1 million passengers were transported by air , which is 2.2 times more than in the same period of 2021. Cargo transportation by air for the year decreased by 0.5 percent to 272,300 tons.
