Chinese investors are interested in creating an industrial zone in Tajikistan, Avesta.Tj reported on September 15 referring to Tajik ministry of economic development and trade.
The source in the ministry said that earlier an agreement was reached on the project of construction of industrial zone in Tajikistan with Iranian companies. The issue has not moved further since.

Tajikistan's government has provided 100 hectares for the construction of the country's first industrial zone in Rudaki District.

About 180 industrial enterprises were planned to be constructed in the zone. The cost of the project will amount to over $250 million, according to the preliminary estimations.

"Two years have passed since the last talks [with Iranian companies], but practically it was never implemented. At first, Iranian investors had several concerns regarding protection of foreign investments in Tajikistan. Moreover, some companies from Russia, Malaysia, as well as some local ones, got interested in the project," the source said.

Earlier a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on "Industrial zone of Tajikistan and China" project was signed between Ta Chen International Inc. and the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan.

The total area of the industrial zone occupy some 700,000 square meters. Ta Chen International is committed to invest about $400 million in the project.
The project envisages construction of enterprises of chemical and construction and mining industries.
