Iran bitumen export increases, despite loss of market in Qatar

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 9

Trend:

Iran's production and export of bitumen in the first five months of the current Iranian year (started March 21,2021) has increased, Vice President of Bitumen Commission in Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters Union Seyed Hamed Hosseini told Trend.

"Iran's export volume in the current Iranian year declined, compared to the previous year," Hosseini said.

"Meanwhile the country's export value has increased in the current year since the price of crude oil was lower last year," he said.

"Iran's export destinations were western and eastern African countries, countries north of Iran, south east Asian, south Asian and east Asian countries," he said.

"About 40 to 50 percent of our exports heads to India while the rest would - to other markets," Hosseini said.

"There are problems with Qatar, since the demand for Iranian bitumen there has declined, and Qatar doesn't want to import it from Iran," Hosseini pointed out. "So, right now, this market is lost, to some extent."

He said export has become more difficult due to COVID-19 spread, but it still continues.
