Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The appeal of Ramil Safarov, an officer of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, regarding the second sentence of the Budapest Court, will be considered in September. Safarov was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Budapest City Court. The former representative of Safarov and the Defense Minister of Azerbaijan, Ikram Shirinov, said that currently the Hungarian court is on leave and the process will begin after its return.
On 17 November 2006 the Budapest City Court sentenced Safarov to eight years suspended imprisonment due to an incident that had taken place between him and the supervisors of the investigation cell where he was held.
Shrinov said that an appeal on the sentence against Safarov for killing an Armenian officer has not been presented to the court yet. Shirinov stressed that discussions are continuing on this issue.
Safarov, who killed Armenian officer, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Budapest City Court on 13 April 2006. The Court of Appeals enforced the sentence.
Now Safarov's rights are protected by lawyers George Majar and Clara Fish.
