In the Pap and Mingbulak districts of the Namangan region of Uzbekistan, 8,140 hectares of land will be developed with investments in the amount of $20 million, Trend reports with reference to Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

Of these, $15 million will be financed from the funds of International Financial Institutions, and $5 million will allocated from the own funds of the project initiators.

Representatives of the mission, consisting of experts from the World Bank, studied the experience introduced in the Pap and Mingbulak districts based on the concept on the efficient use of land and water resources in agriculture.

Currently, a legal framework is being created for the development of the public-private sector in the field of agriculture.

The Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev noted that through the adopted ten-year concept, re-introduction of more than one million hectares of land into use in agriculture would be achieved. Moreover, public-private partnership mechanism will be developed within the project.

The head of the Ministry's department Asror Juraev stated that around 45-50 billion cubic meters of water are used in Uzbekistan. Of these, 15 billion are wasted in irrigation networks. Prevention of these losses will allow to use of land in the agriculture of Uzbekistan twice, and in some areas even three times a year.

The work carried out as a pilot project in the Pap and Mingbulak districts of Namangan region will be later implemented in all regions of Uzbekistan.
