Kazakhstan reports drop in cargo transport volumes

A total of 299.9 million tons of cargo was transported in Kazakhstan by all means of transport in May 2021, which is 6.1 percent less than in May 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

In turn, the volume of cargo transported over the first five months of 2021 amounted to 1.3 billion tons, which is 3.1 percent less year-on-year compared to 1.4 billion tons over the same period of last year.

Thus, the majority of the cargo was transported in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region. The volume of cargo transported in the region amounted to 56.2 million tons in May and 245.07 million tons over the reporting period of 2021, which is 9.7 percent and 9.6 percent less than during the same period last year, respectively.

Karaganda region is followed by the East Kazakhstan region with 46.2 million tons transported in May 2021 (down by 5.6 percent compared to May 2020). The volume of cargo transported in the region during the reporting period amounted to 225.55 million tons, which compared to 225.53 million during the same period last year, indicates a 0.1-percent increase.

Kostanay region takes third place country-wide by the cargo transported in May 2021 (23.2 million tons, down by 13.7 percent). The volume of cargo transported in the region over five months of 2021 amounted to 97.9 million tons, which is 4.5 percent less than during the same period last year (102.5 million tons).

The least cargo volume was transported in the West Kazakhstan region. The transported cargo volume stood at 4.2 million tons of cargo in May 2021, which is 24.5 percent less than in May 2020. The volume of cargo transported from January through May 2021 was 16.6 million tons, which is 42.6 percent less year-on-year.
