Kazakhstan to increase electricity prices

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 18

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Electricity prices will rise in Kazakhstan by an average of 3.5 percent in September, acting chairman of the Committee for Regulation of Natural Monopolies of the Ministry of National Economy Askhat Zhapsarbay said, Trend reports citing informburo.kz.

It is reported that in April 2021, the Department of Energy in Kazakhstan raised the ceiling tariffs for energy-producing organizations by 15 percent. This influenced the prices of electricity supply, tariffs for heat supply and water supply for the end-user.

Also, from July 1, a surcharge was introduced in the tariff to support the use of renewable energy sources (RES). Taking it into account, the increase in tariffs averages 7.2 percent, and for the end consumer, the increase in electricity prices will amount to 3.5 percent.

In July, in some regions of Kazakhstan, electricity tariffs have already been increased. In September, the changes will cover those regions where the price increase has not yet been made.

Earlier it was reported that gas prices have also increased in the country. Since July 1, the growth has amounted to about six percent. The increase is due to an increase in wholesale prices for commercial gas by an average of 10 percent in the country, as well as changes in tariffs for the transportation of commercial gas in certain regions.
