An educational network will be created under the auspices of the 2008-2012 Azerbaijani State Educational Informatization Program.
AzEDUNET is implementing the project with the support of the Azerbaijani Education Ministry and IT Ministry. The project was developed on the basis of the UN Development AzNET Program.
AzEDUNET head Samad Abbasov said the network will unite educational institutions via a broadband Internet network. The network will allow information to be exchanged at high speeds throughout the country. This will lead to the development of a national e-educational system.
AzEDUNET also provides local Internet networks to schools.
Over 200 institutions have already been connected to the network.
Ten schools in Baku and the Education Ministry will be connected to the network via fiber optic cables.
