Ahmet Ozal: Soviet Union Killed my Father

Iran Materials 16 May 2006 17:55 (UTC +04:00)

(zaman.com) - Ahmet Ozal, son of Turkeys 8th President Turgut Ozal, made a startling claim concerning the death of his father.

Ozal said the reason for his fathers death will be brought to light one day and added, The Soviet Union killed my father. There were extremists in Russia who did not want to see the collapse of the union and felt they should do something regarding my fathers assertive remarks (Turgut Ozal was extremely interested in Turkish republics in Central Asia and was trying to unite these republics). I believe they decided to murder my father.

In an interview he gave to Turkish daily, Vatan, Ozal revealed his decision to return to politics after analyzing the current situation in Turkey.

He said, If my deceased father were alive today, I know what he would do to solve the countrys economic and political problems. If I can find a party with the mission to complete the things my father could not, then I would serve.

Ahmet Ozal said he could very likely organize a political party, underlining that he believes it to be the best idea, reports Trend.
