Time-frame for construction of channel in western Turkey disclosed

The channel will be constructed in Turkey’s western Edirne province in late 2019, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on Feb. 19.

The construction of the channel in Edirne province was launched in 2015.

The total length of the channel will be 7.8 kilometers, while width - 50 meters.

"Presently, the work is underway to construct the remaining part," the ministry said. “This channel is being built to prevent mudflows.”

The flood has recently occurred as a result of mudflow in Edirne province in March 2018. Thus, 783 people were evacuated as a result of the flood in the province on February 4, 2015.

As a result of floods and landslides that occurred in Turkey in 1988, 1990, 1995, 1998, 359 people died.
