Russia has decreased tariffs for goods imported from Iran to boost mutual trade, Mehdi Sanaei, Iranian Ambassador to Russia said.

Moscow has decreased the customs tariffs from 27 percent to 3-7 percent, Sanaei said, Iran 's official IRNA news agency reported Sept. 17.

The ambassador made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian trade delegation, which is in Russia to seek business opportunities.

The 52-member delegation includes officials from Iranian Kurdistan, Markazi and Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces.

Sanaei further said that the Russian officials have issued permission for import of dairy products from Iran.

"Russia experiences new conditions and the Iranian government tries to use the opportunity to boost bilateral ties with Moscow in all arrears through its realistic policies."

Meanwhile some Iranian businessmen say resuming trade ties with Russia will not be so easy.

Earlier Ali Akbar Khodaei Secretary General of Iran 's Aquatics Producers' Association said he does not expect the trade relations, which have been hampered for many years, to be established overnight.

Trade with Russians is a difficult job, Khodaei said, adding that no time can yet be specified for starting mass-exports. Special behavior of Russians, issues related to money transfer, and lack of trust between the sides are among the major problems, he stated.

Russia and Iran have signed an agreement on exporting 20,000 metric tons of seafood from Iran to Russia, including shrimp, trout, sprat as well as canned fish during the current Iranian fiscal year (which started on March 21).

Russia banned imports of meat, fish, fruit and vegetables from the United States, the 28-nation European Union, Australia, and Canada for one year at the start of August 2014, in retaliation for sanctions imposed over Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine.

Iran says the Russian tit-for-tat ban on food from the West has opened up new opportunities for its exporters.
