Azerbaijan, Baku, Apr. 3 /Trend/

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will visit Azerbaijan on April 26-27, Bulgarian Focus news agency reported.

Borisov told journalists on Monday in Batumi, Georgia, that he would brief the Azerbaijani authorities in Baku on his idea of diversifying natural gas supplies to Europe.

According to him, if Georgia build a liquefied natural gas terminal at the port of Kulevi, gas will be able to be supplied from Azerbaijan via Georgia and the Black Sea to Bulgaria and then to other European countries.

Borisov also said that he would convey his project to supply gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria to the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, during the latter's visit to Sofia on April 25.

According to the Bulgarian premier, the only real way to diversify gas supplies to Europe is the transportation of gas from Azerbaijan via the Georgia's Black Sea ports to the Bulgarian ports of Varna and Burgas.

At present, Bulgaria is preparing a feasibility study for the construction of LNG terminal at the port of Burgas, the agency said.

Currently operations are underway at the SOCAR's (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Kulevi terminal to construct a facility to transport liquefied hydrocarbon gas.

In November 2009, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria signed a memorandum of understanding to supply one billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas.
