Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 4 By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Over 1,000 sergeants submitted their resignation letters in Turkey within two months, Milliyet newspaper reported on Monday.

According to the newspaper, the reason of the mass resignation is the trial over the officers accused of the military coup d'état of September 12, 1980.

The newspaper also reported that alongside with the sergeants, nearly 700 officers of the Turkish Armed Forces also submitted their resignation letters.

It was earlier reported that Turkish ex-president, 94-year-old Kenan Evren, who led a military coup on September 12, 1980 in the position of the chief of the general staff, faces a life sentence. He is accused of organizing a coup.
