Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 11 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

Cars operating in Azerbaijan that do not comply with Euro-2 environmental standards will be taken out of service, State Standardization, Metrology and Patents Committee Chief Ramiz Hasanov said at a press conference at the headquarters of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.

He added that if the owners of old cars are able to bring them into line with the Euro-2 standards, then they will continue to operate.

He said there is only one laboratory in Azerbaijan determining the conformity of cars with these standards. The laboratory has received accreditation. The laboratory belongs to the State Customs Committee. It has checked imported vehicles in Azerbaijan since Feb. 1.

The committee intends to open nine new laboratories to test vehicles in the near future.
